Using the Coordinated Incident Management System

Page updated: 30 November 2020

The Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) helps SAR organisations work together efficiently. The system also helps the SAR organisation running the operation to coordinate, command, and control SAR resources effectively.

Use the Coordinated Incident Management System

Everyone involved in a SAR operation needs to use the Coordinated Incident Management System. This is the system used throughout New Zealand for responding to SAR incidents. The system gives SAR organisations a shared understanding of:

  • structures
  • functions
  • terminology.

This allows SAR organisations to respond to incidents in a consistent and coordinated way with clear lines of command and control.
