Welcome to Giuliana Petronelli

We are pleased to welcome Giuliana to the NZSAR Council as our new Independent Member, representing the interests of the nearly 10,000 volunteer professionals in Aotearoa New Zealand’s SAR sector.

A member of the Rakaia Land Search and Rescue Group, Giuliana is currently training to become an operational search dog handler. Her interest in SAR goes back to her childhood, with family members involved in both SAR and Police.

As well as working as a lawyer in Christchurch, Giuliana has a strong background in governance roles, most recently with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand, New Zealand Rugby Judiciary and as a Founding Trustee of the Canterbury Community Rugby Trust.

“This is an exciting opportunity to be a conduit between SAR volunteers and the Government officials that support them,” she says. “I’m pleased to be able to use my skills and experience to bring the voice of our SAR volunteers to the top table. It’s a great chance to give back to a sector I’m very passionate about.”
